Teachers are a Gift

A few days after school resumed this year, I was driving along a busy road in my local area when I noticed a signpost outside a church. On the notice board was written the following:
TEACHERS ARE A GIFT.
BLESS THEM!
Although I’m no longer involved in a school, I personally felt hugely encouraged by this notice. I would hasten to add that a teacher reading this sign, whether Christian or not, would likewise feel greatly encouraged.
Teachers are a gift! Only those in the profession know what a demanding job it can be, but also what a rewarding and heart-warming job it can be. It seems that because everyone has been to school, that qualifies them as an expert on what the job of teaching entails. I’ve often invited the critics of teachers to spend a few days in the classroom (but make sure those days include a rainy one!). Funny how none of them have ever taken me up on the offer!
This church (not an Anglican one, I might add) acknowledges and appreciates the valuable job that teachers do. It recognises that teachers are special. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this church dedicates part of its Sunday service to praying for teachers. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all churches did this?
Now you might say that every Christian is a missionary, no matter what job they do, and no one could argue against that. However, the opportunities available for teachers to impress young minds and to model Jesus are enormous and awe-inspiring. Teachers hold the God-given means to transform a generation!
God bless you as you begin the school year.
