At 5pm on Tuesday 16 October, 300 teachers, school council members and other education providers in the Diocese gathered for a service in St Andrew's Cathedral to Celebrate Anglican Schooling.

The service was led by the Chairman of the Anglican Education Commission, Bishop Glenn Davies, and Archbishop Peter Jensen spoke on the topic 'Australian Democracy and our Christian Faith' - a subject of great relevance to everyone associated with Anglican schooling.

Staff and council members from several Anglican schools read from the Bible and led the congregation in prayer, and one of the highlights was the involvement of senior students from St Andrew's Cathedral School, who performed two rousing musical numbers during the service.

Mr John Scott, Director of Anglican Teacher Education at the AEC, interviewed the AEC's Executive Director, Dr Bryan Cowling, about the AEC's current and future work in supporting the Anglican schools in the Diocese.

Towards the end of the service there were acknowledgments of teachers who are retiring from Anglican schooling in 2007, and teachers who are new to Anglican schools this year. Bibles were presented to the two retiring school heads, Miss Lesley May, of Claremont College, and Mr Ron Webb, recently retired from Broughton Anglican College. The St Andrew's Cathedral School Captain said a few words of appreciation for all of these teachers on behalf of Anglican students.

An account of the service is currently featured on the Sydney Anglicans website:
