In the Commission's second year, it has chosen as its catch-cry the three words, doing education Christianly. There are many ways in which education can be done. There are many ways in which education can be described. It has a lot to do with what one sees as the purpose of education. Prior to the federal election last year, a lot was said about education being an important contributor to national productivity and sustenance of our relatively high standard of living. Is that what we see as the goal of education?
If you read the Diocesan Policy on Education, posted on this website, you will discover that it portrays education as being a vehicle through which the true knowledge of God, of the world and ourselves can be explored and embraced. A Christian approach to education does not segregate the study of God from the study of his world, including ourselves. Doing education Christianly is just as relevant to our exploration of history, chemistry, information technology as it is to studying biblical texts.
